The development of the next single-player Horizon game, continuing Aloy's story, is reportedly in its nascent stages with only a small team assigned to its planning, according to a report from Bloomberg. This suggests that Horizon 3 remains several years away from release, potentially targeting a PlayStation 6 launch window.

While Guerrilla Games confirmed that a sequel to Horizon: Forbidden West was in the works in April 2023, the studio's focus shifted after the release of Forbidden West. Instead of immediately beginning full production on the next mainline entry, the team initially worked on Horizon Hunters Gathering, a multiplayer spinoff which is now undergoing a reboot. This reallocation of resources means that the main series may skip the PlayStation 5 generation for new, console-exclusive titles, as Forbidden West was a cross-gen release.

The report also notes that some staff who were previously involved with Horizon Hunters Gathering have now been moved to a new, undisclosed project that is slated for evaluation later this year. Beyond the single-player saga, the Horizon universe is expanding with other titles. NCSoft and Sony are collaborating on Horizon Steel Frontiers, a mobile and PC-accessible massively multiplayer online role-playing game, with Guerrilla Games providing close collaboration on world-building for this NCSoft-developed title. Separately, a live-action Horizon Zero Dawn movie is anticipated, with filming targeted for 2026 and a release in 2027.
