The arcade puzzle genre receives a peculiar twist with Hot Wax, the latest title from PUNKCAKE Délicieux, known for its unconventional games. The game, which launched on Steam this week following an initial release on Itch.io, tasks players with a unique take on the block-falling puzzle formula.
Instead of the familiar line-clearing mechanics of Tetris, Hot Wax features candle-shaped blocks. The core gameplay revolves around planting flames on candle wicks. Once lit, a flame will gradually melt its candle and spread to adjacent wicks, altering the puzzle grid as it progresses. Players must strategically manage the melting wax and avoid extinguishing flames, all while the falling blocks incrementally fill the screen. The game is set within a temple overseen by a vaguely described, "not unfriendly" eldritch entity.
