The Ravenous Bear presents one of the initial combat hurdles in The Blood of Dawnwalker's prologue, largely due to the player's limited skills and equipment at that stage. Successfully defeating this creature is the first step in completing the 'Into the Den' quest, which also requires locating a hidden treasure.
Battling the Ravenous Bear
To make the encounter with the Ravenous Bear more manageable, acquiring a superior weapon is recommended. Players can obtain the Undead Warrior's Sword by traveling to the opposite side of the lake, locating a large tree surrounded by wolves, and finishing the 'Deep Down' quest. This sword offers a significant upgrade over the starting equipment.
During the fight, it is advisable to parry the bear's standard attacks. However, its unblockable red attacks should be avoided by dodging to the side. This evasive maneuver not only conserves stamina, which is crucial for sustained offense, but also provides an opening to inflict damage. Players should focus on timing their 'Perfect Parries' not by the visual attack indicators, but by the moment the bear's shield transitions from yellow to orange, a more reliable timing cue.
Stamina management is key. If stamina levels become critically low, players should retreat and attempt to land Perfect Parries on the bear's jumping attacks while their stamina regenerates. After defeating the bear, the 'Into the Den' quest can be initiated by examining the mangled corpse located behind it.
Completing the 'Into the Den' Quest
Upon finding the Tattered Letter on the bear's corpse, the 'Into the Den' quest will begin. The objective is to locate a stash in the northwest search area, specifically a "flat stone marked with an X." This marker can be found inside a ramshackle hut situated on the west side of the designated search zone. This hut is the only structure with a door in the vicinity, making it relatively easy to spot. For further orientation, players can proceed west along the nearby road from a shrine; the hut will appear to the left.
Interacting with the treasure will initiate a time cycle and yield the Artisan's Tunic, the Rebel's Falchion shortsword, and a note detailing how to handle and sell silver, a substance prohibited by vampires in the game's lore.
