Maschiff and its evolution, Mabosstiff, have arrived in Pokémon Go as part of the September 2026 Mega Squads event. These Dark-type Pokémon, originally introduced in Generation 9's Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, where Mabosstiff played a significant role in the narrative, are now catchable for trainers.

Acquiring Maschiff

There are three primary methods to obtain Maschiff: through exclusive field research tasks during the Mega Squads event, from 5km eggs, and by reaching Rank 30 in the Go Pass. Since two of these methods, field research and eggs, do not become available until Friday, September 11th, progressing through the Go Pass is a recommended starting point. Players are advised to aim for the daily Go Point limit to maximize chances of encountering Maschiff as a reward, particularly for free-to-play users.

Once September 11th arrives, trainers should divide their attention between egg hatching and completing field research tasks. Field research requires locating specific PokéStops that offer the correct task, and community members may have already identified these, saving time as tasks can change daily. Maschiff shares the 5km egg pool with three other Pokémon, meaning successful hatches are not guaranteed. Combining efforts across the Go Pass, field research, and egg hatching during the Mega Squads event increases the likelihood of obtaining at least one Maschiff. This is important as the availability of Maschiff after the event concludes is currently unknown.

Evolving Maschiff into Mabosstiff

To evolve Maschiff into Mabosstiff, trainers will need 50 Maschiff Candy. While hatching a Maschiff from a 5km egg provides a number of candies, trainers should also utilize Pinap Berries when catching Maschiff through field research tasks or the Go Pass. This will accelerate the process of gathering the necessary candy to evolve Maschiff and add Mabosstiff to your Pokédex.

Shiny Forms

At the time of writing, neither Maschiff nor Mabosstiff are available in their shiny forms in Pokémon Go. Trainers will have to wait for a future update to have the opportunity to catch these alternate colorations. Shiny Maschiff and shiny Mabosstiff feature a black and grey color scheme, a departure from their usual brown, which offers a sleek aesthetic that complements their Dark typing.
