Players who have 100% completed the chaotic indie game How to Fish have a new reason to gather their friends and dive back in. Dazed Games has released the title's first major content update, dubbed The Islets, which adds several hours of new gameplay.
The Islets update, version 1.1.0, introduces new islands to explore, new fish species with rare variants, and a variety of new weapons. Players will also be able to unlock additional achievements as they venture into the new content. This update aims to keep players engaged with the game's unusual premise, which has contributed to its significant popularity.
Within the new content, players will discover small islands where they can collect crab carcasses and glass bottles. These items can be exchanged with a new NPC, found on an island featuring a fort and wearing a green hooded robe, for a new in-game currency. This currency can be used to purchase a bow with a base damage of 250. The bow's effectiveness can be further enhanced through quiver upgrades that extend its draw distance and arrow upgrades that increase damage.
This new weapon may prove useful against the update's new boss: the Manta. To initiate a fight with the Manta, players must locate an island marked by oil barrels. Adding a barrel to the water will provoke the creature and start the boss encounter.
The update also features several new fish species, including rare "drip" variants. Catching these drip fish and using them in the game's slot machine mechanic can yield cosmetic skins. Players seeking to increase their chances of finding these rare fish can visit an island characterized by steep rocks, climb to the summit, and collect a wishbone, which is said to improve their luck.
This initial content update provides a substantial amount of new material for players to experience, and Dazed Games has indicated that more updates are planned for How to Fish in the future.
