Catching the legendary Pal, Panthalus, in Palworld is a challenging endeavor that becomes available following the addition of a new tower boss in the game's 1.0 update. While it can be fought at any time, players must first complete a specific quest to unlock its boss encounter.

The quest to find Panthalus can be initiated by visiting the Ancient Civilization Researcher located on the Deserted Islet, situated to the north of the Windswept Hills and Twilight Dunes. The islet is positioned centrally between Ice Wind Island and the ruins at the southern tip of the Astral Mountains.

To begin the Panthalus quest, players must collect four bones scattered across the map. These bones are found on the skeletal remains of giant whales. The first bone is located on the skull of a whale skeleton west of the starting area in the Windswept Hills. It is easily visible due to a glowing light. The first bone can be found on a large whale skeleton west of the starting area.

The second bone is northeast of the Windswept Hills, east of Verdant Brook and northwest of Eastern Wild Island, near the area where the Level 55 Jormuntide resides. Players should travel south from the Altar of the Windcaller fast travel point, navigating past the Jormuntide, to find the glowing item on a low bone structure. The second bone is located near the Altar of the Windcaller fast travel point.

For the third bone, players need to travel west towards Mount Obsidian, requiring Level 2 Heat Resistance. Equipping the Tropical Outfit or Heat Resistant Pelt Armour and keeping fire-type Pals stowed is advised. The bone is found east of the Eternal Pyre Tower Entrance fast travel point, below the cliff edge, within the skull of a large skeleton situated in the lava pools area. The third bone is in the lava-filled region near the Eternal Pyre Tower Entrance.

The final bone is located in the northern part of the Astral Mountains, north of the Windswept Hills. Alternatively, players can travel north from the Deserted Islet. This icy biome requires at least Level 2 Cold Resistance. The bone rests atop the head of a giant skeleton found in the frozen lake west of the Land of Absolute Zero fast travel point. The final bone is situated in a frozen lake in the northern Astral Mountains.

Once all four bones are collected, players must return to the Ancient Civilization Researcher on the Deserted Islet. If this is the first interaction, they will need to accept the quest before speaking to the researcher again to receive the Faded Schematic. This schematic allows players to craft the Echoing Flute at any workbench using the collected bones. Craft the Echoing Flute using the collected bones and the Faded Schematic.

After crafting the Echoing Flute, players should return to the researcher and interact with the glowing symbols on the nearby stone to officially unlock the Panthalus boss encounter. The Panthalus fight is a difficult, timed encounter, with players having only ten minutes to defeat it. Bringing high-tier weaponry like a Plasma Cannon or Multi Guided Missile Launcher is recommended. Crucially, players should utilize a high-level, fast-flying Pal to navigate the arena, which is primarily water except for a small island. Land-based Pals are at a significant disadvantage. Successfully depleting Panthalus's health will cause it to collapse, presenting a 100% guaranteed opportunity to capture the legendary Pal with a sphere. Players will need a flying Pal to effectively battle Panthalus.
