Amplitude Studios has unveiled Humankind 2, the next installment in its historical turn-based strategy series. The game, revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live, will task players with guiding a civilization through various eras, employing diplomacy, military strategy, and technological advancement to outmaneuver rivals.
Building on feedback from the original 2021 release, Humankind 2 is set to introduce refined progression systems, enhanced visuals, and a modernized user interface. A key focus for the sequel is a deeper cultural evolution mechanic, allowing players to adopt distinct cultures in each new era. This system aims to foster unique national identities through expanded cultural progression trees, encouraging players to forge their own historical narratives rather than strictly adhering to established timelines. New global scenarios are also planned to entice players with alternative historical paths.
A significant new addition to the gameplay is the prominence of climate change. The developer has stated that dynamic weather systems will alter the strategic map over time, forcing players to adapt to evolving environmental conditions. This mechanic introduces a layer of long-term consequence, requiring strategic decisions that balance immediate gains with potential impacts on future generations.
Humankind 2 is slated for a PC release in 2027. In related news, the original Humankind is currently available at a 90% discount on Steam until September 8.
