A new game called Hyperdrop is set to arrive on PC, aiming to capture the addictive gameplay loop that made Popcap's Peggle a beloved classic. Developed by Dark Dark Goose and published by Devolver Digital, Hyperdrop is described as a pachinko roguelite that challenges players to transform an empty pegboard into a high-scoring machine.

The core gameplay involves strategically interacting with pegs and balls to create chain reactions and maximize points. Players can upgrade various elements, including the pegs themselves, which can activate special abilities like gravity wells, explosions, and multiball buffs when struck. The balls can also be enhanced, becoming larger, more volatile, or imbued with properties like stickiness or extra bounciness. The game will also feature unique ball types with distinct physics behaviors.

As is typical for the roguelite genre, players are expected to learn from failure and progressively refine their strategies. Each successful run allows for further progression through increasingly challenging stages, culminating in boss battles. The design encourages players to experiment with different combinations of upgrades and buffs to achieve optimal performance.

Visually, Hyperdrop draws inspiration from games like Geometry Wars, featuring a neon-soaked aesthetic. A demo for the game is currently available on Steam. This release coincides with Steam's Pins and Pegs Fest, an event running through August 20 that highlights games incorporating pin and peg mechanics, offering discounts on participating titles.

Hyperdrop is not the only recent title attempting to fill the void left by Peggle. Other notable games in this niche include Peglin, which merges Peggle-style gameplay with mechanics from Slay the Spire, and Roundguard, a dungeon-crawler with bouncy physics. Both Peglin and Roundguard are featured in the Steam Pins and Pegs Fest, making them available at a reduced price during the event.
