Inde Navarrette, known for her role in the recent film 'Obsession' and slated to join Marvel's X-Men reboot, is set to star in a new sci-fi thriller titled 'The Waffle House Index.' The film, which features a screenplay by Andrew Nunnelly that appeared on the 2025 Black List, has been acquired by Apple Original Films.

Directed by Louis Paxton, 'The Waffle House Index' will be produced by Plan B Entertainment, with Navarrette also serving as an executive producer. The project marks a notable step for Navarrette following her breakout performance in 'Obsession.'

The film's title refers to the Waffle House restaurant chain's informal index used to gauge the severity of hurricane threats. This barometer ranges from green to red, with a red index indicating a critical situation where the restaurant remains closed. The movie's narrative appears to lean into this concept, with Navarrette's character, a waitress, facing an exceptionally challenging overnight shift.

According to reports, the plot will involve a confluence of extreme events, including a rogue gunman, flash floods, crocodile attacks, and nuclear missiles. The presence of a hidden bunker beneath the Waffle House is also teased as a narrative element.

Navarrette's involvement in 'The Waffle House Index' signifies her first new project after 'Obsession.' In a review of 'Obsession,' it was noted that the film, thanks to strong performances from its cast including Navarrette, offered a unique take on familiar tropes and delivered a maximalist experience.
