NetherRealm Studios' next unannounced project appears to be Injustice 3, according to recent evidence suggesting playtests are underway. A now-deleted listing from Good Gamer Group, a company that provides testing services for game publishers, has fueled speculation that the studio is preparing for its next superhero fighting game.

The listing described the mystery title as a "triple-A fighting game" and a "major 2D fighting game." While these descriptors are not exclusive to NetherRealm, they align with the studio's known output, especially considering other announced fighting games in development are either smaller in scope or 3D fighters. The playtest's location in Culver City, California, also points to an American studio, with Warner Bros. Games, NetherRealm's parent company, headquartered in the same city.

Further adding to the speculation are past comments from NetherRealm's studio head, Ed Boon, who stated in May that the team is "actively pursuing another Mortal Kombat game" while "definitely doing more as well." The studio has also been observed hiring QA testers and designers throughout the year. In addition, two voice actors who participated in the first two Injustice games reportedly hinted in 2025 at their return for Injustice 3, a claim they later retracted, a common occurrence when unannounced projects are inadvertently confirmed. Art assets for Injustice 3 also surfaced on a Warner Bros. Games artist's online resume in April.

Considering NetherRealm's apparent shift to a four-year development cycle since the release of Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023, an Injustice 3 release in 2027 would align with this pattern. Past titles have often been revealed at The Game Awards, making a potential announcement in December a plausible scenario, although the studio did not follow this pattern for Mortal Kombat 1. These accumulating signs suggest that an official reveal for NetherRealm's next title may be closer than previously thought.
