Insomniac Games has addressed fan speculation that generative AI was used in the development of Marvel's Wolverine, confirming that the game contains no AI-generated assets. The clarification follows the discovery of unusual bathroom signs within the game that featured distorted figures, leading some players to suspect the use of AI.
A TikTok user named SmoothMango first highlighted the peculiar signs in a video that quickly gained traction online. The visuals, which depicted figures appearing to melt or merge unnaturally, were described by the user as "supremely sus" and reminiscent of AI-generated art often flagged by the public. These concerns were amplified when the clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter), prompting Insomniac to respond.
James Stevenson, Insomniac's director of community and marketing, clarified the situation on X, stating that the visual anomaly was caused by a "UV map bug." He assured players that a fix is in development to address these glitchy visuals and reiterated Insomniac's stance: "There are no AI generated assets in Marvel’s Wolverine."
This incident is the latest in a series of post-launch discussions surrounding Marvel's Wolverine. Prior to the AI concerns, the game faced criticism for its "fart gas"-like scent trail mechanic, which Insomniac has since begun addressing with patches and is investigating for a player-toggle option. Despite these and other minor controversies, such as player discussions about the game's linear narrative, Marvel's Wolverine has reportedly seen a strong start in sales.
