Insomniac Games, the developer behind Marvel's Wolverine, has announced its intention to “further refine the player experience” based on player feedback. The studio expressed it is “incredibly proud” of the game, which launched this week.

Marvel's Wolverine currently holds a Metascore of 77. IGN’s review awarded the game a 6/10, citing that while the combat is slick and satisfying, it wears thin before the conclusion, and even strong character work couldn't elevate it beyond being merely adequate.

In a social media post celebrating the game’s launch, Insomniac confirmed it is “actively engaged” with players to gather input. The full statement reads: “It’s finally here — the launch day for Marvel’s Wolverine! We’re grateful to everyone who has helped us reach this special moment. Players around the world are beginning their journey with Logan and we’re excited to learn about everyone’s experiences playing the game. We’re incredibly proud of what the team has created. We’re also actively engaged with our player community and gathering feedback to further refine the player experience. We deeply appreciate our players’ passion, support, and time spent with Logan. We’re raising our claws in tribute, and can’t wait to hear about your own adventures playing Marvel’s Wolverine.”

The extent to which Insomniac can “further refine” the gameplay remains a question. Players and critics have pointed to the combat as an area potentially needing more depth, and to the play spaces for greater variety. However, the game's linear structure and tight narrative may limit the scope for significant alterations to these core elements.

One particular point of discussion has been Wolverine’s in-game “fart gas” scent trail, which some players have requested be made optional. This visual element, which appears behind Logan when he is tracking something, has drawn comparisons to similar visual aids in other games, with some suggesting it detracts from the challenge and immersion of exploration and chase sequences. While the game features accessibility options, including a “Chase Assist” that offers reduced movement speed for targets, Insomniac has clarified that none of these options disable the scent trail. Director of community and marketing James Stevenson explained that the scent trail represents Logan’s canon mutant super senses and tracking ability, appearing only when he is actively tracking a specific scent, sound, or collectible.

Beyond potential adjustments to gameplay mechanics or visual elements like the scent trail, Insomniac might also consider adding more content for players post-completion. While Marvel's Wolverine includes New Game Plus from day one and Insomniac has stated there is ample content for players after the credits roll, there may be room to introduce additional activities or challenges for those seeking to extend their engagement with the game.
