Developers at SouthGobi Entertainment, the studio behind the upcoming fighting game Invincible VS, have voiced a strong interest in incorporating guest characters from other universes. Game director Dave Hall and lead combat designer Bau Bautista indicated a willingness to feature characters such as Spider-Man and Mortal Kombat's Sub-Zero, should the opportunity arise.
"We're definitely not above that," Hall stated in an interview with MMORPG.com regarding potential crossovers. "We're always down for a crossover. I think it's really exciting to think about, and let's hope we can do some in the future, but nothing that we can talk about right now."
Bautista echoed this sentiment, expressing a particular desire to include characters from the Mortal Kombat franchise. "We'd love to have Sub-Zero and Scorpion! Bring them over, that'd be great," he said. "If we have that opportunity, we will definitely take it," added Bautista. This enthusiasm is notable given that Omni-Man, a prominent character from the Invincible universe, was previously a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 1, establishing a precedent for such cross-promotional appearances.
The possibility of Spider-Man appearing in Invincible VS also holds specific relevance, as both characters have a history of appearing in each other's comic book iterations. Invincible itself frequently draws inspiration from various Marvel and DC characters, making a crossover feel like a natural continuation of established narrative connections.
For now, Invincible VS remains focused on characters original to Robert Kirkman's Image comic series. The game is set to begin its first season on June 30, with new characters Immortal and Universa slated for addition on that date.
