The development team behind the fighting game Invincible VS has expressed a strong openness to collaborations with other intellectual properties, with a particular interest in incorporating characters from the Mortal Kombat franchise.
During an interview at Evo 2026, Game Director Dave Hall and Lead Combat Designer Bau Bautista discussed the possibility of guest characters, acknowledging the trend seen in titles like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8. Both developers indicated that while such a crossover would need to align with Invincible's violent tone, characters from Mortal Kombat would be a welcome addition. "NetherRealm, they’re the best. That would be incredible," Hall stated, with Bautista adding, "If there's an opportunity, I'm not going to say no to Scorpion."
The developers noted that the Invincible comics themselves feature numerous guest appearances and crossovers, making a similar integration in the game a plausible concept. This openness comes at a time when guest characters are becoming a significant feature in the fighting game genre, with recent examples including Tifa Lockhart in Street Fighter 6 and Yujiro Hanma in Tekken 8.
Beyond potential crossovers, Hall and Bautista also shared insights into the game's future development. They revealed that Atom Eve was initially considered for a 'revive' mechanic similar to Immortal's, but the team opted to focus on ensuring her core functionality was solid before adding more complex abilities. "There’s always potential, especially once our meta starts to get more established," Bautista commented on the possibility of adding such mechanics later.
The development team also emphasized their commitment to community feedback, stating they actively monitor player suggestions across Discord, social media, and direct messages. "We listen to everything that's happening out there," Hall affirmed, describing their approach as a "real-time developer" focused on quick fixes and continuous improvements.
Plans are in motion to expand Invincible VS with more single-player content, though the continuation of the cinematic story mode, which ended on a cliffhanger, could not be guaranteed due to the team's size of approximately 50 people. "We are definitely working on things to get more single-player experience," Hall assured, highlighting the team's dedication to delivering more content for players despite resource constraints.
