Is GTA 6 Coming to Switch 2? Nintendo Defers to Rockstar

Speculation surrounding the potential release of Grand Theft Auto VI on the Nintendo Switch 2 has been met with a non-committal response from Nintendo of America. When asked directly about the possibility, company president Devon Pritchard stated that such decisions rest with Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

"That’s going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time,” Pritchard told Variety. This statement places the ball squarely in Rockstar's court regarding any potential Switch 2 version of the highly anticipated title.

Reports from May 2025 indicated that Rockstar was performing technical feasibility tests for bringing GTA 6 to the Switch 2. These tests are a common practice for developers to assess platform compatibility but do not confirm a game's eventual release on a given system. As of now, GTA 6 is officially confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. A PC version is anticipated to follow at a later date, though it remains unconfirmed.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has expressed optimism about the Switch 2, noting that the company sees a significant opportunity to bring some of its catalog to the platform. However, he also clarified that Take-Two would "not necessarily bring every title to the platform." While GTA 6 may not be destined for Nintendo's next console, the company has a history of supporting Nintendo hardware. Rockstar previously released GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch in 2021, which is also playable on the Switch 2. Furthermore, Rockstar's earlier titles, such as GTA: Chinatown Wars, were released on the Nintendo DS, and the original Grand Theft Auto and GTA 2 found their way to the Game Boy.
