YouTuber Seán McLoughlin, widely known as Jacksepticeye, has offered insight into his role as a producer for the R-rated Bloodborne movie adaptation. Speaking on the podcast "100 Questions with Tom Simons," McLoughlin described his responsibilities as being a "vibe-checker" for the project.
McLoughlin explained that his involvement includes participating in discussions with stakeholders regarding key elements of the vetting process and hiring decisions. "I say that my role is that I'm the one being like, 'This is a good idea, this is a bad idea, we shouldn't do this.' But also I'm the one greenlighting who gets hired, and who we work with to make sure that vetting process is good," he stated. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that anyone involved in the production has a genuine understanding of the Bloodborne universe. "You don't want to bring on anyone who has no idea what Bloodborne is. In simpler terms, I'm sort of the vibe-checker to be like, 'Yeah, not that.'"
He clarified that his intention is not to replicate the game exactly or to create a film that surpasses the game's own achievements. Instead, McLoughlin's ambition is to "honor the universe that's there and tell as good a story as I can within it." While not seeking personal financial gain, he acknowledged that success could lead to personal benefit given his producer status.
McLoughlin has previously expressed a profound passion for the Bloodborne franchise, suggesting that working on this film adaptation feels like a calling. The Bloodborne movie is not the only FromSoftware title receiving a cinematic adaptation; a live-action Elden Ring film is also in development with director Alex Garland and A24.
