Jagex has announced the cancellation of RuneScape Reignited, a project intended to offer a fresh start for new and returning players on separate servers. The decision comes less than two weeks after the initiative was first revealed, following significant backlash from the game's existing community.
Players voiced concerns regarding a potential split in the RuneScape community, restrictions on character interactions, and the requirement for a separate subscription for Reignited servers. In response to this feedback, Jagex issued an apology, stating they were "exploring a heavy set of revisions to Reignited." Despite outlining intended alterations and soliciting further player input, the studio has now opted to discontinue the project entirely.
"It is clear that we missed the mark on this, and so we are not moving forward with it," said Mod Ryan, associate creative director Ryan Philpott, in a blog post. He emphasized that the goal is to foster growth for RuneScape by attracting new and returning players without alienating the existing community.
This is not the first time Jagex has reversed course due to player sentiment. The company previously canceled a RuneScape battle pass in 2023 and removed "Treasure Hunter" microtransactions in 2025, with the latter being part of a broader transformation aimed at delivering greater value and fairness to players.
Despite the cancellation of Reignited, Jagex is offering a 10-day free trial for RuneScape starting December 2, providing full access to all game content. The studio also reaffirmed its 2027 roadmap for RuneScape, expressing optimism for the game's future and encouraging continued community feedback.
