DC Studios co-head James Gunn has provided an update on the search for the DC Universe's next Batman, stating that while casting has not yet begun, it "won't be too long" before the process starts. Unlike previous iterations, Gunn indicated a shift in casting philosophy, aiming to find the most suitable actor rather than a pre-established movie star.
Gunn drew a parallel to the casting of Superman, citing David Corenswet as an example of an actor chosen for his talent rather than his celebrity status. He emphasized that the new Batman would likely be close in age to Corenswet, as the two characters are intended to be "future best pals." Gunn also confirmed that no actor would be ruled out, regardless of prior roles in DC projects.
Rumors suggesting that the new Batman would make an appearance in an upcoming DC project, such as the forthcoming film Man of Tomorrow, have been dismissed by Gunn as "all bullshit." Filming for Man of Tomorrow, which features Superman teaming up with Lex Luthor against Brainiac, has already concluded. The film will include returning DCU actors like Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl, among others. The timeline for the introduction of the new Batman into the DCU remains unconfirmed, but the casting process is expected to commence soon.
