The assembly cut for DC Studios' upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, has been completed, according to director James Gunn. He confirmed the milestone on Threads in response to a fan's question.
An assembly cut represents the first stage of film editing, where all footage is put together in sequence to establish the film's structure. For a visually effects-intensive project like Man of Tomorrow, significant post-production work remains beyond this initial assembly. However, this update suggests that the film's production remains on schedule despite recent corporate changes at Warner Bros., including its impending merger with Skydance.
Despite leadership shifts at Warner Bros. Pictures, including the departure of co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, Gunn and co-head of DC Studios Peter Safran are expected to continue their roles. Gunn's active involvement in the film's post-production indicates his commitment to seeing Man of Tomorrow through to completion.
The film is currently slated for a theatrical release on July 9, 2027. Other confirmed DC Studios releases include Clayface on October 23, The Batman Part 2 on February 18, 2028, and Dynamic Duo on September 22, 2028.
