James Gunn Debunks Milly Alcock Supergirl Rumors, Provides 'Man of Tomorrow' Update

DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn has moved to quell rumors surrounding his upcoming slate of films, specifically addressing speculation about Milly Alcock's role as Supergirl and providing an update on the anticipated "Man of Tomorrow." Gunn took to Threads on October 16 to clarify misinformation, stating that rumors of Alcock being fired from the Supergirl project are untrue.

Fan concerns about Alcock's future in the DCU were amplified after some noticed the star had removed certain Supergirl-related posts from her social media. Despite these observations, Gunn confirmed that Alcock remains an integral part of the new DC Universe. The actress, who debuted as Kara Zor-El in 2025's "Superman" and reprised the role in the "Supergirl" film earlier this year, is expected to play a significant part in "Man of Tomorrow." Gunn had previously hinted at Alcock's return in the "Superman" sequel, noting the potential dynamic between her character and David Corenswet's Clark Kent.

In addition to clarifying the Supergirl situation, Gunn also addressed whispers concerning "Man of Tomorrow," which had suggested negative test screenings and the potential death of a major character. He unequivocally dismissed these reports as false. Furthermore, Gunn revealed that he was scheduled to show Peter Safran, his fellow DC Studios co-chairman, an early cut of "Man of Tomorrow" later that day, noting that Safran would be the first to see any version of the film, a month ahead of schedule.

These clarifications come at a time of heightened anticipation for the DCU's future. While "Superman" launched the new cinematic era with considerable success, the performance of "Supergirl" led to some online hesitancy about future projects. Gunn, however, appears confident in the direction of the studio's upcoming films. He expressed a degree of fatigue with the constant stream of rumors but indicated a willingness to address significant misinformation when necessary, recalling a past instance where he debunked rumors about Jenson Ackles being cast as Batman.
