James Gunn Denies Milly Alcock Supergirl Rumors, Calls Reports 'BS'

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has officially addressed and denied a wave of fan speculation surrounding Milly Alcock's portrayal of Supergirl, labeling the rumors as "BS" and "couldn't be more false." The latest online chatter suggested that Alcock had been removed from her role or recast following the recent release of the DC Studios film.

Gunn's comments came in response to reports that Alcock had removed all mentions of the DC Studios film from her Instagram account. This action by the actor had fueled rumors among fans that her tenure as Supergirl was over. However, Gunn, writing on Threads, clarified the situation.

Addressing Multiple Rumors

Gunn's statement was a direct rebuttal to three separate rumors circulating online. Beyond the Alcock-Supergirl speculation, he also addressed claims that Matt Reeves is no longer directing The Batman Part 2 – a rumor he confirmed as false, though he noted Steven Soderbergh is assisting Reeves with filming. Additionally, Gunn refuted reports that a test screening for the Superman sequel, titled Man of Tomorrow, received poor reviews.

"Oh brother. You guys just have to stop listening to BS, and I'm mostly done shooting down rumors as there are so many, and I'm not on here much," Gunn posted. "But all three of these couldn't be more false. I'm showing PETER SAFRAN my first Director's Cut today — he's the first person to see it obviously — and that's a month early!"

Fans have often scrutinized Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran as they reshape the DC cinematic universe. Despite the intense scrutiny and recent box office disappointments, Gunn and Safran have reportedly received renewed trust from Warner Bros. Discovery. The persistence of unsubstantiated rumors highlights the ongoing fan engagement and speculation surrounding the DCU's future projects.

Milly Alcock is slated to reprise her role as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in Man of Tomorrow, scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. The film will also feature David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, alongside a cast including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. The film Supergirl is currently streaming on HBO Max.
