James Gunn to Clarify The Suicide Squad's DCU Canon Status in New Podcast

Filmmaker James Gunn, now co-head of DC Studios, is set to definitively address fan questions surrounding the canonicity of 2021's The Suicide Squad. Gunn, who directed the film prior to the establishment of the new DC Universe, will host a special one-off podcast event titled "The Suicide Squad: Is It Canon? The Official Podcast." The program is scheduled for release on October 30 and will be available on HBO Max, the official DC and HBO YouTube channels, and major podcast platforms.

Gunn will be joined by DCU actors Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee for the podcast. According to HBO Max and DC's official description, the trio will delve into the film's characters, including Harley, Bloodsport, Ratcatcher 2, King Shark, and Amanda Waller. The episode promises behind-the-scenes stories from the set and messages from other The Suicide Squad cast members, all aimed at answering fan inquiries.

In other DC Studios news, Gunn is nearing completion on Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to 2025's Superman. This film will feature Superman and Lex Luthor collaborating to confront Brainiac, with several other DCU characters expected to appear. Gunn recently confirmed that the assembly cut for Man of Tomorrow is finished. Additionally, a second season of Creature Commandos is in development, though Gunn will not be writing it as he did for the first season.

Gunn is reportedly already working on his next project following Man of Tomorrow, with writing in progress. Details about this future project remain undisclosed, and it is one of several films and TV shows planned for DC, most of which already have attached writers and directors.
