Inspired by the international goodwill fostered during recent baseball tournaments, a Japanese solo developer has added Czech language support to his upcoming Steam game, Ball Boy Simulator. The decision was made specifically for a single user from the Czech Republic who had wishlisted the game.
Eba Game, the developer behind Ball Boy Simulator, stated on X (formerly Twitter) that he became aware of the Czech Republic's respect for baseball and Japan during the recent World Baseball Classic. "I know from the recent World Baseball Championships how much respect the Czech Republic has for baseball and Japan," Eba Game explained. "So for the sake of this one baseball fan in the Czech Republic, I implemented Czech language support. Wait for me, my Czech friend."
This gesture stems from an unexpected connection forged between Japanese and Czech baseball fans. The largely amateur Czech national team garnered significant attention and support from Japanese fans during the 2023 World Baseball Cup, even managing to briefly lead against the Japanese team. A notable moment included Czech pitcher Ondrej Satoria striking out Japanese star Shohei Ohtani.
Despite the heartwarming international outreach, Ball Boy Simulator itself presents a stark contrast to the spirit of friendly competition. According to its Steam description, the game is a psychological horror experience exploring the "oppression and unreasonable treatment experienced in high school baseball clubs, based on the real-life experiences of the developer and those around them."
Furthermore, the game's development includes the use of AI. The Steam listing includes a disclaimer stating that "AI-generated content was used for some asset textures, portions of the background music, development-related assistance and technical questions, and parts of the game's social media promotional materials." The extent of AI's involvement in the Czech localization, and the quality the single fan can expect, remains to be seen.
