Prime Video's planned pirate action film, tentatively titled The Pirate, is currently undergoing a rewrite with star Jason Momoa involved, according to producer Kelly McCormick.

The project, initially announced in August, is described as "The Raid set on a pirate ship." Gareth Evans, who directed the 2011 Indonesian action film The Raid, was initially attached to direct, while Aquaman star Jason Momoa was expected to both star and produce alongside Deadpool 2 director David Leitch and his wife Kelly McCormick under their 87North banner.

Speaking with Polygon, McCormick provided an update on the film's development. "We are rewriting The Pirate with Jason Momoa," she confirmed. While she did not offer a firm timeline, McCormick indicated that the project is actively in development. "It's happening, just he's [Momoa] busy. We've got some stuff going on. It's brewing. It's definitely brewing and it's something we love. I know Amazon and Jason are excited about it. It's something that we can't wait to get to."

Momoa has a packed schedule, with numerous upcoming projects including the newly introduced DC character Lobo in Supergirl, and previously a role in Sony's Helldivers movie, which he has since departed. His IMDb page lists several other commitments, such as Street Fighter, The Minecraft Movie: Squared, Dune Part III, and Fast Forever. The busy slate suggests that production on The Pirate may still be some time away, but the confirmation of a rewrite indicates continued commitment from the involved parties.
