Jennifer English, a prominent voice actor known for her roles as Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3 and Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has stepped down from the lead role in Eclipse Glow Games' upcoming action-adventure title, Tides of Annihilation. The studio announced on July 17 that English would no longer be voicing the protagonist, Gwendolyn, due to personal health reasons.
Eclipse Glow Games stated that English informed them of her decision in early June. While saddened, the studio expressed full understanding and respect for her prioritizing her well-being. They also conveyed deep gratitude for her diligence and responsibility throughout the process. English will continue to contribute to the project in an advisory capacity.
The development team has already secured a replacement for the role with English's assistance, though the new actor has not yet been revealed. This new voice talent will be featured in the version of the game available for players to experience at Gamescom 2026 in August. "We have truly enjoyed this journey together, and wish Jennifer all the very best, and most importantly, good health and happiness in whatever comes next," the studio shared. "To our players, thank you for your continued support and understanding. We’re truly grateful to have you on this journey with us."
Tides of Annihilation, first unveiled during a 2025 PlayStation showcase, is an urban fantasy action game that blends elements of Arthurian legend with modern-day London. The game emphasizes fast-paced arcade combat and is positioned as a single-player AAA title from China, following in the vein of games like Black Myth Wukong. English's participation had significantly boosted the game's profile, particularly after her BAFTA win earlier this year for her performance in Clair Obscur.
