Jennifer English, known for her award-winning role as Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has stepped down from her role as protagonist Gwendolyn in the upcoming action game Tides of Annihilation. Eclipse Glow Games, the development studio behind the title, cited personal health reasons for her departure.
In an announcement shared via the official Tides of Annihilation X account, the studio revealed that English informed them in early June of her inability to continue as Gwendolyn's English-language voice performer. The statement expressed understanding and respect for English’s decision to prioritize her well-being, while also conveying gratitude for her dedication throughout the process.
English will remain involved with Tides of Annihilation in an advisory capacity. The development team has already recast the role of Gwendolyn, with English herself assisting in the recommendation of a new actor. While the identity of the new voice performer has not yet been disclosed, Eclipse Glow Games noted that her recent work left a strong impression due to her performance and dedication to understanding the character.
The newly cast voice actor has completed recording sessions for lines that will be featured in Tides of Annihilation's forthcoming Gamescom demo. Attendees at the event will be the first to hear the revised performance, and Eclipse Glow Games plans to officially announce the new actor during the convention.
Tides of Annihilation, which was first revealed in February 2025, is described as a stylish action-adventure game drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend. The game places players in the role of Gwendolyn, a warrior and the last known survivor in London following an invasion by otherworldly forces. Her mission involves defeating this threat with the aid of ten legendary, colossal knights encountered throughout her journey. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, though a specific release window has not yet been announced.
