Jennifer English, an actor known for her role as Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3, has stepped down from her role as the main protagonist Gwendolyn in Eclipse Glow Games' action title Tides of Annihilation. English stated that this decision was "difficult yet personally necessary" as the game enters a new development phase, emphasizing her need to "slow down and reassess the commitments I've taken on" to "rest and properly look after my mental and physical health."
English expressed gratitude for her involvement since the game's inception and praised the development team. She has also introduced an unnamed actor, described as "very talented" and a "wonderful fit for Gwen," to take over the role. English is eager for players to experience the new voice actor's performance and plans to remain with the project in an advisory capacity.
Eclipse Glow Games acknowledged English's decision with understanding and respect, expressing gratitude for her contributions. The studio confirmed that a new, talented performer has been found for Gwendolyn, whose performance will be featured in an upcoming Gamescom 2026 demo and select official updates in August. The team lauded English's original performance for bringing "depth, strength, vulnerability, and heart" to the character and wished her the best.
Tides of Annihilation, developed by Chinese studio Eclipse Glow Games, blends modern-day London with Arthurian legend, featuring Bayonetta-esque combat. Players control Gwendolyn as she seeks the Holy Grail, commanding spectral forms of the Knights of the Round Table. The game merges an Elden Ring-inspired fantasy aesthetic with contemporary London. Previously announced in February 2025, Tides of Annihilation is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a release date yet to be confirmed. It is scheduled to be playable at Gamescom.
