Jeremy Renner Teases New Avengers Project, Hinting at West Coast Avengers Return

Jeremy Renner, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has recently shared images on social media that suggest a new Avengers-related project may be in the works. The actor posted a photo featuring a collection of The West Coast Avengers comic books, fueling speculation about his potential return to the franchise.

The West Coast Avengers, a spin-off team from the original Avengers, first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1984. Hawkeye was a founding member, and the team's roster has included characters like Mockingbird, Wonder Man, Tigra, War Machine, and Vision. A West Coast Avengers project could provide an opportunity to reintroduce several characters to the MCU, potentially including Wonder Man, who recently starred in a critically acclaimed Disney series, and Vision, played by Paul Bettany.

The most recent iteration of the West Coast Avengers in the comics was led by Kate Bishop, the other Hawkeye who co-starred with Renner in the 2021 Disney Plus series. That team also featured America Chavez, portrayed by Xochitl Gomez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The potential for a West Coast Avengers project could fill a perceived void left by the lack of a confirmed Young Avengers series.

Discussions for a second season of the Hawkeye series reportedly stalled due to several factors. Renner himself cited a significant salary dispute, stating he was offered half of his previous season's salary for a potential second season, which he considered an insult. He has previously expressed that while he loves the character and would be open to returning, he felt the need to defend himself during negotiations. The actor also faced a severe injury in 2023 which resulted in numerous broken bones.

Despite not being slated to appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, Renner has consistently indicated his willingness to reprise the Hawkeye role in other capacities. Given the nature of MCU productions, official confirmation of any new projects involving Renner or the West Coast Avengers is unlikely until closer to their release.
