Atlus has confirmed that voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch will return to voice Tohru Adachi in the forthcoming Persona 4 Revival. This marks the only instance of a returning cast member from the original Persona 4's English voice ensemble.
Bosch, also known for his portrayal of the protagonist Yu Narukami in the original game, will not be reprising dual roles in Revival. The protagonist role has been recast with Nazeeh Tarsha, who has prior voice acting credits in Genshin Impact and the anime series Kaiju No. 8 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
This casting decision has generated discussion among fans, particularly those who had hoped for the return of other original voice actors. In previous statements, Atlus developers explained that a strategic decision was made to recast the majority of the original Persona 4 voice cast. Game director Kazuhisa Wada cited scheduling conflicts and actors leaving the industry as primary reasons for not being able to bring back everyone.
"So we’re like, ‘OK, I guess we have to kind of once again roll up our sleeves,'" Wada told Gamesradar. "‘Alright, let’s start over. Let’s get a whole new cast in and let’s do our best.'"
Despite this stated intention to rebuild the cast, the return of Johnny Yong Bosch has led some fans to question the casting process. Several original cast members, including Yuri Lowenthal, who voiced Yosuke Hanamura, had expressed interest in returning to their roles. The return of Bosch, while welcomed by some, has left others confused about the criteria for selecting returning actors versus recasting.
Atlus has been gradually revealing the voice cast for Persona 4 Revival through social media. As of now, Johnny Yong Bosch is the sole confirmed returning actor from the original game's English voice production.
