Kit Harington, the actor behind Jon Snow in HBO's Game of Thrones, has indicated a shift in his perspective regarding a potential return to the character. Harington, who had previously stated he did not want to "go anywhere near" Jon Snow again, has now expressed that he can envision "a world in which something could work" with the character.
Speaking on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Harington reflected on the development of the Jon Snow spinoff, which he helped create with HBO. The proposed series was intended to explore Jon Snow's life in the Northern wilderness after the events of Game of Thrones, depicting a character grappling with grief and PTSD. According to George R.R. Martin, Harington had envisioned a darker arc for Snow, one that involved him avoiding heroic roles and even destroying his iconic sword, Longclaw.
The spinoff was ultimately shelved, and Harington had previously stated his intention to move on from the role. However, after a period of separation from the character, Harington feels more comfortable with the idea of revisiting Jon Snow. "I still think there's a world in which something could work," he said, adding that he and HBO had agreed that a project would only move forward if the right story was found. He explained that he realized "this isn't quite the right time" for the spinoff, but now, having pursued other projects, he feels more aligned with the character and his place in the Game of Thrones universe.
This softened stance contrasts with his comments from last year, when he dismissed the idea of reprising his role for a Game of Thrones audiobook, stating, "No, god no. I don't wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that."
While the Jon Snow spinoff remains shelved, HBO is reportedly exploring other potential Game of Thrones sequel series, including one centered on Arya Stark. It remains to be seen if Harington's Jon Snow could make an appearance in any future projects.
