The trailer for the final Jumanji film, "Jumanji: Open World," has been released, showcasing the game's unpredictable elements escaping into the real world. The movie is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on December 25.

"Our heroes have escaped the perilous jungles of Jumanji before, but this time Jumanji breaks free of its console, unleashing its chaos into our world," reads the official synopsis. The trailer highlights the film's embrace of video game tropes, including respawns and boss fights, suggesting a meta-commentary on gaming culture. The familiar cast, including Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, return as the video game avatars who find themselves in the real world acting like "TikTok IRL NPCs." They also switch personalities when back in the game.

"Jumanji: Open World" is the concluding chapter of the trilogy, following "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" (2017) and "Jumanji: The Next Level" (2019). The previous two installments achieved significant box office success, collectively grossing $1.7 billion worldwide. The film's release date was reportedly shifted to accommodate "Dune: Part 3" and "Avengers: Doomsday."

The film also features Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Rhys Darby, Nick Jonas, and Danny DeVito. Dwayne Johnson, seeking a hit following recent film performances, stars in the latest installment.

"Jumanji: Open World" arrives at a time when movies inspired by video games are becoming more prevalent. Before the new Jumanji film, audiences can expect a "Resident Evil" reimagining in September and a "Street Fighter" adaptation in October. These releases add to a growing slate of video game-themed films, with reports indicating over 50 such projects are in development.
