Justin Wong and IFC Yipes Literally Commentate Ryu's Match Against Blanka in the Street Fighter Movie

Fighting game community icons Justin Wong and IFC Yipes not only appear in the upcoming Street Fighter movie but also contributed their commentary talents to a scene. Director Kitao Sakurai included these notable figures as criminals in an apparent Shadaloo prison, witnessing a fight between Blanka, portrayed by Jason Momoa, and Ryu, played by Andrew Koji.

Footage shared by Wong offers a closer look at their cameo, revealing that he and Yipes were actively commentating on the match. In the scene, they are depicted betting on commissary items like ramen noodles and toilet paper, adding an authentic touch to their roles.

Beyond their commentary, Wong also incorporated a nod to a significant moment in fighting game history. He requested his character have a tattoo of the number 37, a reference to "Moment 37," a famous match from a past tournament. Wong joked that his character was imprisoned for repeatedly being parried, stating, "You can't parry a knife." The film even includes a brief interaction where Noah Centineo, playing Ken, recognizes Wong and inquires about the parry incident.

The film is set to feature other homages to the fighting game community and its related franchises. Props on set included what appeared to be Mike Haggar's pipe, hinting at a connection between the Street Fighter and Final Fight universes. The Street Fighter movie is scheduled for release on October 16, 2026.
