Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has stated that Star Wars actor Adam Driver has turned down numerous Marvel roles over the years, a situation Feige referred to as a "long-lived tradition." Despite this, Feige expressed a continued desire to bring Driver into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Feige shared in an interview that he has engaged in "many conversations" with Driver about potential MCU characters, but the actor has consistently declined the offers. Feige described the interactions as "cordial" and noted that Driver is "usually up front about how he’s feeling."
These comments arrive amid ongoing speculation about Driver's potential involvement in the MCU's upcoming X-Men reboot. Earlier reports suggested that Driver might portray the iconic X-Men villain Magneto, though a subsequent update indicated he is being considered for the role of Mister Sinister. Feige’s remarks do not definitively confirm or deny these rumors, as he focused on Driver's past rejections rather than addressing current casting possibilities.
The MCU is actively developing its X-Men franchise, which is slated to begin after next year's "Avengers: Secret Wars." The project is under the direction of Jake Schreier, who helmed "Thunderbolts/The New Avengers." The studio has already introduced mutant characters like Namor and Kamala Khan, and the upcoming film "Deadpool & Wolverine" will feature characters from previous X-Men iterations from Fox.
Further casting rumors suggest that "Stranger Things" star Sadie Sink might play Jean Grey in "Spider-Man: Brand New Day." In other MCU news, the first trailer and poster for "Avengers: Doomsday" have been released, offering a glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and hinting at his character's motivations within the story.
