Eighteen years after its initial release, the classic strategy-RPG King's Bounty: The Legend has received a significant quality-of-life update designed to bring the game to modern PCs. The update introduces full support for widescreen resolutions, eliminating the black bars that previously marred the display. Additionally, the maximum zoom-out distance has been doubled, and the user interface has undergone a readability pass to improve clarity for contemporary players.
Beyond technical enhancements, the game now integrates several modern Steam features. These include Steam achievements, trading cards, and a points shop. A dedicated Steam Workshop has also been implemented, providing a platform for modding. Currently, the workshop hosts a single mod that reverts one of the UI readability changes to restore the original fonts.
King's Bounty: The Legend, developed by Katauri, was noted for its expansive single-player world map and unique mechanics, such as the ability for the player character to marry various non-human entities, including a frog or a zombie. Its sequel reportedly toned down these whimsical elements, resulting in a less distinctive experience.
Katauri has indicated plans to bring similar updates to King's Bounty: Armored Princess. In conjunction with these updates, the King's Bounty series is currently on sale, with King's Bounty: The Legend available at an 85% discount on Steam. The fan-favorite expansion, King's Bounty: Crossworlds, is also offered at an 85% discount.
