Kingdom Hearts 4 is firmly on track for a late 2027 release, according to co-directors Tetsuya Nomura and Tai Yasue. Addressing fan anxieties during the Kingdom Hearts panel at D23, Nomura stated directly, "I saw online that some people were saying the release date might still get pushed back. I want to set the record straight: That is not happening."

These assurances come in the face of a history of significant gaps between mainline Kingdom Hearts titles. The fourteen-year interval between Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3 has understandably led to player concerns that "late 2027" could easily shift to a later year. However, Yasue expressed strong confidence in the development team's schedule, emphasizing the commitment to the target window. "I can confidently say and promise that it will launch in 2027," he stated. "It’s not like an 80-percent, 90-percent—it’s a 100-percent thing. We’ll be there in 2027 for sure."

Despite the assurances, Square Enix has a number of major projects slated for 2027, raising questions about potential resource allocation and inter-project interference. While different teams are responsible for each title, the simultaneous development of multiple large-scale games presents a complex management challenge that could theoretically impact release schedules. Nevertheless, the directors' firm statements aim to quell any lingering doubts about Kingdom Hearts 4's arrival in late 2027.
