Square Enix has unveiled a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4, alongside a projected late 2027 release window and the announcement of a new Disney+ anime series. The news emerged from D23, where a trailer showcased the inclusion of Pixar's Coco into the game's world. This addition coincides with a separate announcement at D23 for Coco 2, slated for a November 2029 release.

The forthcoming Kingdom Hearts anime series for Disney+ is being developed in collaboration with franchise creator Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix. The series aims to reimagine the video game saga with an entirely new narrative that will expand upon the established Kingdom Hearts universe and celebrate its beloved characters. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, expressed excitement about bringing the game world to life in a new format, emphasizing the creative team's close work with Nomura to ensure the series remains true to the Kingdom Hearts identity.

Further details are anticipated during a dedicated Kingdom Hearts panel at D23, scheduled for August 15 at 4:30 p.m. PT / 7:30 p.m. ET (August 16 at 12:30 a.m. UK time). This panel is expected to offer a behind-the-scenes look at the game's development. The guest list includes Nana Gadd from Disney & Pixar Games, Tai Yasue from Square Enix (believed to be co-director of Kingdom Hearts 4), and voice actors Haley Joel Osment (Sora) and David Gallagher (Riku), alongside Renée Johnson for Disney character voices.

Kingdom Hearts 4 previously offered a first look at gameplay during a surprise appearance at the June 2026 Nintendo Direct. Square Enix has confirmed that the game will launch simultaneously on PC via Epic Games Store and Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, as well as the Nintendo Switch 2. An official description states that the game will allow players to see characters protagonist Sora will encounter in the mysterious city of Quadratum, as he journeys to new realms and awakens new powers.
