Kingdom Hearts 4 is now targeting a late 2027 release window. The announcement came during Disney's D23 2026 showcase, which also featured a new trailer and revealed that the game will explore a new story arc, the Lost Master Arc. This new arc will pick up after the events of Kingdom Hearts 3 and will be set primarily in Quadratum, a large, realistic hub city with a distinct Tokyo-like aesthetic.
The release window places Kingdom Hearts 4 on track to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC around the series' Western 25th anniversary. This marks a more concrete commitment from Square Enix compared to previous updates, which had largely consisted of director Tetsuya Nomura assuring fans that development was proceeding as planned without a specific timeline.
In addition to the release window and new story details, the D23 showcase also confirmed a new world based on Pixar's Coco and an animated Kingdom Hearts series. Earlier this month, Square Enix addressed accusations that it had used AI-generated content for promotional material for the Kingdom Hearts Collection 1-3, with the company stating that the assets were created by their development team without generative AI and that the issues stemmed from human error.
