The Kingdom Hearts franchise is experiencing a significant surge in popularity on Steam, with the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 Remix compilation reaching second place on the U.S. Top Sellers list. This resurgence follows the recent unveiling of extended gameplay footage for Kingdom Hearts IV at the D23 event.

As of August 17, 2026, the compilation hit its peak on Steam's charts, driven by a substantial increase in player count. Data from SteamsCharts indicated a 24-hour peak of 10,139 players, with over 8,000 actively engaged at the time of reporting. The franchise is currently featured in a major Steam sale, offering collections at a 70% discount until August 20.

Although the title has since seen a slight drop to third place, surpassed by the newly released Mortal Shell II, its performance marks a considerable achievement for the series on the platform. The franchise previously appeared on Steam's Top Sellers list during the summer of 2024 when it first launched on the platform, achieving its then-historic concurrent player peak of 11,152.

The renewed interest is directly linked to new Kingdom Hearts IV content revealed at D23. The trailer showcased an explorable world based on Disney Pixar's Coco, featuring Sora alongside Miguel and Hector, and provided a more detailed look at Quadratum, a realistic urban setting where Sora is seen using a smartphone. A notable segment featured playable sequences as King Mickey, Goofy, and Donald Duck, who are searching for Sora.

Adding to the excitement, series director Tetsuya Nomura publicly confirmed that Kingdom Hearts IV is slated for a late 2027 release. Nomura addressed potential fan concerns about delays, stating, "I want to set the record straight: that is not happening."

With a confirmed release window, many fans are revisiting earlier titles in the series to refresh their knowledge of the complex Kingdom Hearts narrative in anticipation of the upcoming installment.
