Kingdom Hearts IV, first revealed in 2022, is now slated for a late 2027 launch, according to an update provided at D23.

Coco World Confirmed

The upcoming installment will feature a world based on Pixar's animated film Coco. A new trailer showcased Sora navigating the Land of the Dead, encountering characters from the movie such as Miguel and Héctor. As is tradition for the series, players will likely experience a reimagined version of the film's events, with Sora shown utilizing a Keyblade inspired by Día de Muertos motifs to battle Heartless.

Beyond the Coco-inspired environment, the trailer offered glimpses of Quadratum, the game's primary setting previously seen in earlier previews. Two new characters were also introduced. Gameplay segments showed Mickey, Donald, and Goofy on a quest to locate Sora.

Kingdom Hearts IV is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.

Kingdom Hearts Anime Announced

In addition to the game's update, Square Enix revealed that a Kingdom Hearts anime series is in production. Titled Kingdom Hearts (working title), the series will be available on Disney Channel and Disney+. Series mastermind Tetsuya Nomura and members of the game's creative team are involved in its development. No release window or trailer for the anime has been shared yet, though a graphic was provided by Disney.
