This discussion follows the confirmation that Kingdom Hearts 4 is slated for a late 2027 release. The upcoming game will feature Donald Duck as a playable character and will include characters from Disney's Coco. The Kingdom Hearts series has achieved significant success, with Disney noting it as one of nine gaming franchises to surpass $1 billion in sales. Adding to the franchise's multimedia presence, a Kingdom Hearts TV series is also in development for Disney+.
An earlier attempt at a Kingdom Hearts animated television show was created by filmmaker Seth Kearsley, who posted an animatic version online. However, this pilot has since been removed. The original Kingdom Hearts game was greenlit during Michael Eisner's tenure as CEO, though Eisner has since stated he does not recall approving the project.
