Konami is already planning for future installments in the Silent Hill franchise, with producer Motoi Okamoto revealing that "second and third waves" of new games are in development. Okamoto shared these plans in an interview with Famitsu, as reported by Game Observer. The comments come after Konami's successful release of what is being considered the first wave of new Silent Hill titles, which included the Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall.
"All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we’re relieved," Okamoto stated. "They’ve also received high praise, and we are satisfied with it."
He continued, "Successfully launching this 'first wave' comes with great relief, but we’re not stopping here; we must think of the second and third waves. We can’t share specific details, but we’re currently looking at a number of projects."
The most recent release, Silent Hill: Townfall, launched last month to generally favorable reviews, with IGN awarding it an 8/10. The review noted that the game provided a "welcome shot in the arm" for the long-running horror series.
Okamoto also discussed the challenges of securing support for new Silent Hill projects following the cancellation of Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills. He expressed his belief that "just one remake is not enough" and that as a producer, he could not let the series conclude with a single release, fearing it would lead to perceptions of canceled development.
Konami's renewed focus on Silent Hill also includes ongoing work by Bloober Team on a remake of the original Silent Hill, announced last year. The planned subsequent waves of games suggest a sustained commitment to revitalizing the franchise for its fans.
