Saber Interactive's newly appointed chief business officer, Steve Allison, has suggested that the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic could be released in 2028. This statement, made in response to an inquiry on a subreddit dedicated to Space Marine, offers a potential, albeit tentative, timeline for a project that has faced numerous delays and studio changes since its initial announcement in 2021.
Allison, who joined Saber to organize the company's self-publishing efforts, included the KOTOR remake in a list of anticipated titles for 2028, alongside Space Marine 2, John Wick, and other unannounced projects. A Saber Interactive representative confirmed the authenticity of Allison's message but clarified that it does not constitute an official statement on the game's development status or release targets.
The KOTOR remake has been shrouded in uncertainty, marked by development setbacks, studio shuffles, and the broader restructuring of its former parent company, Embracer Group, which led to Saber becoming an independent entity. In March, Saber CEO Tim Willits reiterated that the game was still in development, without providing further details.
Allison's mention of a potential 2028 release suggests that substantial work remains on the remake. The current date places this potential release well into the future, given that mid-2026 has already passed, underscoring the likelihood of continued development and the possibility of further delays. He also addressed concerns about monetization, stating that aggressive microtransactions are not Saber's product strategy, though paid DLC may be considered for some titles. Allison specifically referenced a negative player reaction to Space Marine 2's voice pack DLC as an issue Saber aims to avoid repeating.
