The DC series Lanterns may be headed for a second season, with a new writing team reportedly already at work on ideation for the next installment. While HBO has yet to officially renew the show following its first season finale, sources suggest that development for Season 2 is underway.
Outgoing showrunner Damon Lindelof confirmed to Collider that a writers' room is "working on ideating on Season 2." The series concluded its freshman run with a self-contained narrative, leaving numerous possibilities open for the future of its main characters, John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler).
Pierre is also slated to appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman film, Man of Tomorrow, alongside Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. This crossover, along with the potential for Lanterns Season 2, comes at a complex time for Warner Bros., which is undergoing a corporate restructuring. Another DC series, The Penguin, reportedly remains in limbo after its initial season.
Lindelof also discussed potential avenues for Hal Jordan's return to the series, even with his departure as showrunner. He pointed to the Green Lantern comics, where the character has a history of dying and being resurrected, as well as the Parallax storyline, which involves possession by an cosmic entity. Lindelof suggested that "where there's a will, there's a way" for Jordan to continue his narrative arc, whether through traditional means or as a projection within Stewart's subconscious, similar to the character's role in Season 1.
