Lazare's Sacrifice: A French Revolution Deckbuilder from Gwent's Lead Designer

Curve Games has announced Lazare's Sacrifice, a narrative deckbuilder set during the French Revolution, developed in collaboration with Gwent's lead designer Damien Monnier. The game is slated for release in Spring 2027.

Players will step into the role of the historical figure Lazare Hoche, presented in the game's key art as a considerably more handsome rendition than his historical counterpart. The core gameplay revolves around sacrifice, where players must be willing to give up resources, including cards in hand and even health, to strengthen their plays and progress. The game's mechanics are designed such that the more a player sacrifices, the more powerful their actions become.

Unlike typical visual novel presentations, Lazare's Sacrifice features interactive exploration within Carmes Prison. Players can move around the environment in an attempt to escape. The deckbuilding card game serves as the primary mechanic for avoiding the guillotine, a narrative conceit that frames the gameplay. The game's art style is described as vivid and comic-book-like, with lightly abstract, painterly backgrounds.

Beyond the card game, players can engage in narrative cutscenes with multiple dialogue options and attempt to pick locks. These actions can potentially unlock new cards, suggesting various methods for acquiring new cards will be available to the player. The game promises a visually appealing experience grounded in a historical setting, with its unique blend of deckbuilding and narrative exploration.
