Legion Was Here Captures Mission: Impossible's Thrill of Deception

Legion Was Here, a new deductive game from solo developer Geoffroy Monde, channels the intricate deception and high-stakes impersonation that defines the Mission: Impossible franchise. The game casts players as the super-spy Legion, tasked with adopting new identities and gathering intelligence through detailed dossiers.

Unlike action-oriented espionage titles, Legion Was Here focuses on the precision required to maintain a cover. Players must meticulously craft disguises, often by piecing together incomplete information from dossiers, which might include bizarre clues like X-rays suggesting unusual cosmetic surgery or children's drawings hinting at specific hairstyles. This preparation is crucial before engaging with targets, where any slip-up during conversation can lead to failure.

The impersonation extends beyond appearance. While players can jot down notes on an comically oversized in-game hand, success hinges on internalizing vital information from the dossier. The tension escalates during interrogations, where targets actively try to expose the player's false identity. Successfully passing as an underworld arms dealer or an alien with nefarious plans requires a keen eye for subtle details and a strong memory.

Developed over three years by French comic book author Geoffroy Monde, who handled writing, illustration, and music, Legion Was Here stands out as a testament to individual creativity. The game blends visual novel elements with espionage gameplay and character customization, offering a tense, occasionally humorous, and stylish spy thriller experience. Legion Was Here is available on Steam, with a demo also provided.
