LEGO has unveiled three new building sets based on the Batman franchise, scheduled for release on January 1. The collection features two Batmobile models and a striking piece of wall art inspired by a renowned Joker comic cover.
The Joker Wall Art
One of the standout additions is the LEGO DC: Batman - The Joker Wall Art. This set allows builders to recreate Jock's iconic cover art from Detective Comics #880, a 2011 issue that presents a nightmarish, close-up depiction of the Joker's face. The LEGO interpretation features bats seemingly flying out of the frame, offering a dynamic visual effect. The set also promises layered "hidden details" to be discovered during the building process.
Vehicle-Themed Sets
Fans of Tim Burton's 1991 film Batman Returns can look forward to the LEGO DC: Batman Returns Batmobile & Duck set, which includes buildable versions of the movie's distinctive Batmobile and the Penguin's large duck vehicle. This set is positioned as a more accessible alternative to a previously released, larger Batmobile model from the same film.
Additionally, the LEGO DC Arkham Batman Batmobile set offers a recreation of the angular Batmobile from the popular Batman Arkham video game series. This 317-piece set includes a Batman minifigure.
In-Game Bonuses
Both the Batman Returns Batmobile & Duck set and the Arkham Batman Batmobile set come with codes that unlock in-game content for the video game LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. These codes grant access to golden versions of characters and vehicles, as well as a specific "gold Batman Returns Batmobile Batcave Prop" for the latter set.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight itself has been praised for its faithful and humorous integration of Batman's cinematic and comic book history, according to IGN reviews.
New York Comic-Con Preview
Attendees of New York Comic-Con, running from October 8 to 11, will have an early opportunity to see all three sets at the DC Booth (#4365). The booth will also feature a nine-foot brick replica of the Joker cover art. For those pre-ordering the LEGO DC Batman - The Joker Wall Art at the convention, a reprint of the comic issue with a LEGO-brick-inspired cover will be provided, with original cover artist Jock scheduled for signings on Thursday, October 8.
