A leaked image suggests that a Lego Astro Bot set will be offered as a free gift with purchase for the recently announced Lego PlayStation. The collectible, said to comprise 276 pieces, will stand 8 inches tall and feature poseable joints and customizable expressions, according to information from Lego leaker Brick Tap.
This Astro Bot build is expected to come with a stand designed to capture the character mid-jump. The set's inclusion as a promotional item means it will likely not be available for individual purchase. Historically, such "gift with purchase" (GWP) items from the Lego Group are time-limited and often become sought after by collectors, potentially leading to inflated prices on secondary markets.
The Lego PlayStation set itself, officially revealed last week, is a near 1:1 scale replica of Sony's original console. It includes 1,911 pieces and is priced at $179.99. A functional "Open" button on the replica reveals miniature dioramas inspired by classic PlayStation titles, including Ape Escape and Gran Turismo. This release continues Lego's practice of creating brick-built versions of iconic gaming hardware, having previously produced sets for the Game Boy, NES, Sega Genesis, and Atari 2600.
This leak surfaces during a period of increased scrutiny for Sony. The company recently announced its intention to cease production of physical discs for PlayStation consoles, a move that critics argue pushes consumers toward digital ownership models where they may not truly own their game libraries. Additionally, Kojima Studios has reportedly moved its upcoming stealth game, Physint, to Xbox after Sony allegedly attempted to cancel the project. Sony has also faced criticism for significant layoffs within the team behind Destiny and for prioritizing live-service game development over established franchises.
