LEGO is preparing to release a new Astro Bot construction set, which will be offered as a Gift With Purchase (GWP) rather than a standalone product. The 276-piece set, identified as 40899, will be included with purchases of the LEGO PlayStation set when bought directly from LEGO's official stores or website, while supplies last.
Recent leaks have suggested the existence of this Astro Bot GWP, and images of its packaging, along with confirmation that it will not be available for individual purchase, have now surfaced. Astro Bot has become Sony's unofficial PlayStation mascot, particularly following the success of the recent Astro Bot game for PlayStation 5. This LEGO rendition stands approximately 20cm (8 inches) tall and 12cm (4.5 inches) wide.
While the LEGO PlayStation set is priced at $179.99, the Astro Bot set is intended as a bonus for those purchasing it. As is common with GWP sets, it is anticipated that the Astro Bot set will eventually appear on resale marketplaces at inflated prices.
LEGO has not yet officially announced the Astro Bot set. Preorders for the LEGO PlayStation are expected to open soon, with the set scheduled for an October 4 release date, or October 1 for LEGO Insiders. The recent Astro Bot game for PS5 was highly praised, earning a 9/10 score in IGN's review for its inventive platforming and appeal to PlayStation fans.
