Lego is continuing its line of brick-built retro console recreations with a new set based on the original Sony PlayStation. Following in the footsteps of the Nintendo Entertainment System, Atari 2600, and Sega Genesis, the Lego PlayStation will launch for Lego Insiders on October 1, with a wider release on October 4.
The Lego Sony PlayStation set comprises 1,911 pieces and is designed to be approximately a 1:1 scale replica of the iconic console. Priced at $179.99, the set includes the console, a controller, and two nostalgic dioramas. A functioning "Open" button on the console's front right corner reveals a spring-loaded lid, which, when opened, displays a miniature Lego recreation of the classic PlayStation logo, alongside dioramas inspired by the 1997 game Gran Turismo and 1999's Ape Escape.
With 1,911 pieces, the Lego PlayStation is more substantial than the 480-piece Lego Sega Genesis but smaller than the Lego Atari 2600 (2,532 pieces) and Lego Nintendo Entertainment System (2,646 pieces). Previous Lego console sets have included accessories like a retro TV for the NES and multiple game cartridges for the Atari 2600.
The Lego PlayStation set is recommended for ages 18 and up and measures over 2.5 inches high, 10.5 inches wide, and 7.5 inches deep. It will be available for purchase on Lego.com.
