A new city-building game, Lego Skylines, has been revealed. Developed by Iceflake Studios, the same team currently handling Cities: Skylines II, the game puts players in charge of constructing and managing a city built entirely from Lego bricks and populated by the iconic yellow minifigures. The announcement was made during Gamescom's Opening Night Live event.
Iceflake Studios is no stranger to the city-building genre, having taken over development of Cities: Skylines II after its original developer, Colossal Order, parted ways with publisher Paradox Interactive. Paradox Interactive, which retains the rights to the Cities: Skylines brand, is now partnering with Iceflake Studios again for Lego Skylines.
The game's Steam page outlines a familiar yet distinct gameplay loop. Players will be tasked with managing fundamental city services such as electricity, food, and water. Beyond the basics, the emphasis is placed on creating an appealing environment for citizens. This includes providing desirable housing, good job opportunities, and ample recreational spaces like parks. The developers also hint at a significant amount of customization options, featuring a wide array of buildings, decorations, and other elements to personalize player-created cities.
Managing essential infrastructure such as hospitals, ensuring a food supply for services like donut shops, and handling waste disposal and sewage will be key to a functioning city. The game aims to provide players with the tools to create a city that feels uniquely their own.
Lego Skylines does not yet have a specific release date window. However, it is confirmed to be launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
